This may have been discussed before, but I was seriously under the impression that Jacob was becoming abusive. I know that Stephanie is/was a Mormon, so I knew that there wouldn't be any rape, but I was almost expecting him to try. He crushed Bella's face to his and has a big problem letting her go. Nothing should be forced like that in a healthy, loving relationship. It was like he had sexual issues, and couldn't keep it in his pants IMO.
This is just how I read it, of course. I honestly felt anxious in many scenes with Jacob/Bella, and not in a good way. I could not believe close to the end of Eclipse* (lol), how she actually admitted she was in love with Jake after every unwanted advance she had received from him. Werewolf or not, he seemed far more dangerous than any vampire IMO. I felt like he was a creep/sexual predator.
There were many times when Edward held Bell's wrists and everything and kept her close, but it wasn't the same vibe AT ALL. Edward tried in earnest not to hurt her at all, and Jacob just didn't seem to care-- long as he could get a good laugh out of it.
I mean, Jacob/Bella would have been MUCH more believable if he hadn't have been so prying and physical with her. It gave me a bad feeling in my gut. Sam scratched Emily pretty good, and I shudder to think of what Jake would do to Bella if he couldn't control himself.
A quote from the book itself: "I held very still -- my eyes closed, my fingers curled into fists at my sides -- as his hands caught my face and his lips found mine with and eagerness that was not far from violence." (Pg. 526)
