PopSugar: How did you feel about the decision to split Breaking Dawn into two movies?
Melissa Rosenberg: Relief, actually, because it was going to be quite a challenge to condense such a large book into one movie. That's always the challenge with all of these and, more so, Breaking Dawn. Having a little more room to breathe is nice . . . on the other hand, there's also the challenge of making sure there's enough to fill two movies.

Box office analysts are fickle

ECLIPSE Much Stronger Than NEW MOON
At no. 2, David Slade‘s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, in which Robert Pattinson’s vampire and Taylor Lautner’s werewolf are rivals for the affections of Kristen Stewart’s human, pulled in $4.32m, having fallen below the $5m-per-day mark for the first time.

Eclipse‘s per-theater average was $969.

For comparison’s sake: In fall 2009, Chris Weitz‘s The Twilight Saga: New Moon fell below the $5m-per-day mark for the first time on Day 11 (also a Monday), bringing in $2.38m — or about half what Eclipse grossed on Day 13. New Moon‘s per-theater average then was $591 — or about 60% that of Eclipse‘s.

In other words: Eclipse has gotten much stronger legs than New Moon. Even so, Eclipse will cross the $250m milestone a little later than I’d predicted: Thursday, not Tuesday/Wednesday. Its current total is $239.69m.

Also, for fun, boxofficemojo has this chart that compares Twilight/NM/Eclipse daily box office figures against each other. Yesterday, on day 13, Eclipse pulled ahead of NM, $239,699,029 to $237,830,629.
