I thought this piece was a good one for anyone who's interested in knowing more about the upcoming movie version of Jack Kerouac's On The Road, which is Kristen's next project. For people who have read the book, or who are familiar with the "beat" culture, what do you think of this?

"The good news is it looks like Francis got his way. IMDB says the movie will indeed be shot in black and white. Now, whether this is strictly traditional black & white like Schindler’s List or possibly some kind of movietone period “black & white” with washed out colors like Saving Private Ryan remains to be seen, but I trust the filmmakers' decisions will effectively enhance the story as opposed to hindering it. Then there's the casting. Dean Moriarty will be portrayed by Garrett Hedlund who has been in a number of films but never in a lead role. Jack Kerouc will be played by British actor Sam Riley, who received stand up reviews for Control. And LuAnn Henderson (MaryLou) will be played by Kristen Stewart and Carolyn Cassady (Camille) will be played by Kirsten Dunst.

Now, aside from the fact the similar sounding and relatively new names of Kirsten and Kristen is bound to screw up a number of movie reviewers (I’ve been stumbling over them for weeks now—“is it Kristen Stewart or Kirsten Stewart from Into the Wild?”) - I think the idea of focusing on the star power of the female leads is terrific."

The Twilight effect or, thank you, Stephenie

Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Robert Pattinson (Edward) are shown in a scene from "Twilight."<br /><br />Associated Press file

Ok, statistics first. I'm 43, husband, father, PR guy. Team Edward.

I knew the basics of Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular "Twilight Saga" phenomenon. A high school girl, Bella, falls in love with a vampire, Edward. He's a gentleman: chivalrous, conservative, no sex until marriage. She's self-deprecating to a fault. The book series sold like, well, like Twilight books.

For me, first came the movie. We got a free weekend of Showtime and "Twilight" was on. Boom, I was hooked. Now, I know movies and this was no great film, but it captured my attention. I couldn't stop talking about it. Talked with my wife, mother, co-workers and strangers. My 14-year-old daughter avoided laughing at me, to my face at least.

We got the set of four books and I dove in. We rented "New Moon" the following weekend. It was a better movie, still not great. That Jacob-the-werewolf-thing: Didn't care for it. The books though, they were different. I've never read "young adult" romance fiction, but by the end of Twilight, I was even more hooked. Can't say what exactly I was hooked on, but it had me.

• Robert Pattinson wanted to wear karate pants for the training sequence. “So we got him some karate pants, and it’s like the crotch hangs down to the knees, and I just thought, Ugh. Who’s gonna go for this? Because everything has to be approved by Summit,” Monaghan says. “We took them in a little bit, and they loved the karate pants. Who knew? I was so surprised.”
