So, after Bella was changed in BD, we all know she got to keep her father because of Jacob's little revealing of the supernatural. But imagine this is pre-BD. Most people assumed Bella would be changed, but what do you think the fallout would be? Edward essentially tells her she'll have to lose her family and friends because of what she will become - bloodthirsty and unchanging. Did you think Bella would cut herself off from everyone immediately, or in a few years, when it became apparent she wasn't getting any older? Do you think she would have told Charlie and Renee her secret, therefore endangering them?
Most people use the whole Bella keeping in contact through emails/phonecalls and never meeting anyone from her past face to face, which I think could work since Charlie isn't the bothersome type and Renee seems to be more distant after Bella settles into Forks.
On the controversial side, do you think Bella would have faked her death, or had it suggested to her, to give closure to everyone and ensure no one tried to go looking for her? I always thought this was an interesting concept. If she's so dead set on becoming a vampire and knows what she has to sacrifice, it seems logical, and we all know the Cullens know how to construct a crime scene. I'm just not sure Bella would have the heart to do that, and while Alice and Jasper might think about it, Edward might be fiercely against it.
